During this STEAM initiative, 7th graders from The Scholars Academy in the Rockaways discover the science and mechanics behind photography – first by assembling their own Bigshot camera and later by exploring the parts that make up a functioning camera, such as gears, sensors, and lenses. The program culminates with a trip to the labs of Columbia University’s School of Engineering.
Magic Box Teaching Artists help students learn about the science and art of photography through a curriculum designed to build vocabulary, creativity, observational and critical thinking kills.
