MBP Students Become DIY Big Shots:
JHS 194 6th & 7th Graders Build Cameras
For the first time in MBP history, our students are not only capturing fascinating images using digital cameras, they're actually building them! DIY: Building Cameras and Community, is a Creative After School Adventure program at JHS 194 in Queens, NY, in which 6th and 7th grade MBP students learn to assemble Bigshot digital cameras to use to document their community.
Recently the students had the pleasure of interviewing Bigshot Camera creator and Columbia University professor Shree Nayar through Skype. During the live video conference, they asked Shree about his experiences with science and technology, how the Bigshot Camera works, and why he created it.
On March 19th, Executive Director Nelle Stokes joined a panel at Apple Soho to discuss the progressive CASA Bigshot program with ArtsEd Tech NYC and the NYC AIE Roundtable.
We are grateful to Paul Vallone and District 19 of the NYC City Council, for giving our students this outstanding opportunity for creative uses of art and technology.
