From August 7th-9th, Magic Box staff and teaching artists presented The Art and Science of Photography to NYC educators at the STEM Institute. The STEM Institute, held twice annually, is a three-day professional development opportunity for teachers. It provides support to schools as they develop and implement STEM-focused approaches to learning, STEM programs, or build STEM-centered schools.
Day One, Magic Box led educators through the history of photography, an in depth look at how a camera works, and then sent everyone out for a photo scavenger hunt. Day Two, had the group building Big Shot cameras and learning how to take photos with them, followed by a trip to the International Center of Photography. Day Three started with sun prints and culminated with a gallery show of their best photographs.
Thank you to the STEM Institute, educators, and our very own teaching artists for a wonderful three days!
